Alberto M. Calvo
Alberto Calvo’s focus on immigration law came naturally. He is an immigrant himself, having come to the United States from Colombia when he was young. After growing up in South Florida and eventually attending law school, Alberto quickly realized that corporate transactional law and litigation were not the right fields of law for him. So he took a job at an immigration firm—and soon started hearing from Colombian friends and family who needed immigration help. That eventually led to work helping business clients bring their employees to the United States from overseas. He struck out on his own in 2000, and today, he manages a busy practice focused on securing nonimmigrant work visas for the employees of corporate clients. He has particular experience in the digital media and technology industries.
Alberto enjoys doing immigration work because it provides a chance to help the people he works with realize their dreams. Whether this means working for a specific company or living in the United States, he finds that securing these visas often means a lot to clients’ future employees. He is proud to help them take the first steps in those journeys. Because he knows these visas mean so much to the applicants, he works closely with them, helping them understand every step of the visa process and preparing them for contacts with the federal government. In fact, he prides himself on providing this kind of personal service, and makes sure to be available 24 hours a day. In a field where many of his competitors pass day-to-day client interactions on to paralegals, he believes this dedication to client service helps his firm stand out.
After finishing his undergraduate degree at St. Mary’s University in San Antonio, Texas, Alberto worked as a marketing director for MCA Records before attending the St. Louis University School of Law. When not managing his law firm, he is a dedicated father to his two daughters and partner to his wife, a physician with a busy practice of her own.
